The Great HI-POINT Accessories Line
The History of HI-POINT
PENTON motorcycles and HI-POINT Accessories always went hand in hand. Two great ideas and creations of the great John Penton. When a man can do business around the world with no signed contracts, this is a true sign of a man that tells the truth and always keeps his word. This is true of John Penton. Not only did he do millions of dollars of business with KTM for the PENTON motorcycles and parts to be shipped over to the United States, he also did it with accessories. It was in Europe around 1970 when Mr. Penton meet Mr. Sante Mazzarolo from the Italian boot company Alpinestar.
It is widely known that the name HI-POINT comes from Canada, where John Penton raced and won the Corduroy Enduro 6 years straight. In Canada they used this term "HI-POINT" to describe the winner of the race. In 1969 a gentleman named Matt Weisman quit his job and went on to work for John Penton and help grow the HI-POINT accessory line of great products. Then in 1972 the host of televisions MotoWorld show, Larry Maiers joined HI-POINT and made it take off for John Penton. larry Maiers went on to develop a contingency program for professional riders of that time such as Jimmy Weinert, Brad Lackey, Marty Smith and of course the "Hurrican" Bob Hannah. New HI-POINT boots for then as well as money. also later on designed a boot line endorsed by the famous dirt tracker and road racer Kenny Roberts. the HI-POINT boot line was very protective because of its quality leather used on every pair. a line of enclosed fiberglass motorcycle trailers in 1984 also carried the HI-POINT badge on it. These trailers was another great idea of John Penton. One was recently spotted on Ebay for sale. A list of items that carried the HI-POINT name appears below.
